Publishing and Media
We have been granted the opportunity to take part and develop one of the world’s boldest Internet strategies in 1999, the establishment of Ynet. Today Ynet’s model is considered to be the mainstream, which is followed by everyone, making it difficult to remember how revolutionary it has been back in those days. Among the countless innovations that it brought it is important to mention that Ynet was one of the world pioneers in the development of a news portal which does not merely mirror the printed addition (which used to be the common model in those days), but rather an independent and competitive entity, with its own agenda and independent editorial staff. An independent body that even struggles with its own printed edition (Yediot Aharonot) in the same manner as with any of its competitors.
The practice of sending a journalist or photographer from Yediot and another one from Ynet, who compete within themselves for the scoops, seemed irrational at the time. This controversial approach has allowed Ynet to reach its leadership position and become Israel’s leading news portal.
It’s important to mention that Ynet was the first site to implement “talkbacks”. Its editors were the ones who have coined this term. This was way before these applications were referred to as Web 2.0 an we before the realization that the public’s opinion is important.
When we mention Internet publishing we cannot go without mentioning Calcalist, Ynet’s “younger brother”, which is, in our opinion one of the smartest, interesting and modern financial news site. One that is constantly adding innovations and outstanding user experience, which promises to enhance its position in the market.
