Realcommerce was a partner in the design and implementation of one of the boldest internet strategies in 1999 - Ynet. Today, the model set by Ynet has become mainstream, and is the way all news websites are heading, making it a little difficult to recall how revolutionary it was. The decision to establish Ynet as an independent body – a competitor to the printed newspaper – was contrary to prominent thinking in the online world at the time, but has made it the undisputed market leader.
Ynet has pioneered the online news field with its approach of creating a newspaper or an internet news portal which is not a reflection of its print edition, but rather an independent news company, competing with its mother newspaper, Yedioth Aharonoth, almost as it was any other market competitor... The reality in which press conferences have a reporter from ynet and a reporter from Yedioth Aharonoth, as well as a photographer from ynet and a photographer from Yedioth Aharonoth, and in which these two news bodies compete between themselves over every scoop, is what allowed ynet to retain its leading position in the media market.
World Class Innovation
Amongst the many innovations offered by Ynet, the fact that they were the first website to allow talkbacks (a term coined by Ynet’s news editors), long before the world began terming similar applications by the term “web 2.0”, and long before the public’s opinion was thought to be important and became mainstream.
